WHAT IS LYMPHEDEMA?

Lymphedema is a swelling of the legs or arms caused by a congestion of the lymphatic system. Vein and breast cancer surgery are the two most common causes, however the condition can be caused by congestion of the lymph system from infection, heart failure, and obesity.

Treatments for Lymphedema offered at PREVITY

Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) conducted at PREVITY Clinic -- Center for Physical Healing

It has four components:
1. skin care
2. compression
3. exercise
4. manual lymphatic drainage (MLD).

All four components must be included for a good outcome. There are two phases:

I Intenstive: Reduce swelling
II Maintenance: Stockings are issued to maintain the reduction
